”Upper Cormonachan Paths Project Fund” – An Update
The ‘Upper Cormonachan Paths Project Fund’ has now reached £4,500 from local funding.
We need to reach £12,500 to be able to apply for Lottery Heritage Funding of £237,500 in November 2019. That will leave us to find the balance of the construction costs amounting to £73,484 and we have already applied for a number of £25,000 funds to make up the total required of £323,484 to complete the full funding for the paths project.
We have therefore applied for more local funding from the Lochgoil Development Trust (Hydro Scheme) for up to £8,000 for a grant to be able to advance our application for the Lottery funding. It is a condition is that we have to raise 5% of any grant applied for from them, locally.
We have already been awarded a grant of £5,425.20 for the Archaeology Survey & subsequent signage at the Upper Cormonachan Old Village from the National Park’s Heritage Fund and that work starts later this month. Tree felling along the proposed path from the Contemplation Shelter to Upper Cormonachan now has permission from the National Park and Forestry & Land Scotland which will be carried out by the CWA volunteer chainsaw operators from 27th September and over the autumn to spring months. Replanting of replacement oaks and other deciduous trees away from the new path route will take place on 22nd to 24th November 2019 and has been supported by the Woodland Trust with the trees supplied by them.
We would like to thank again all those who have donated to this paths project and if anyone else would like to offer the fund a donation, it would be very welcome. There is a ‘Donate’ link on the bottom of any of the CWA’s website pages at https://cormonachan-woodlands.co.uk . If we can raise the necessary full funding by early summer 2020, work will be scheduled to start on 1st September 2020 and be completed in 16 weeks. The opening of the paths project would then take place early in 2021,
Thank you to so many who are supporting this big project!
