Stage 2

Stage 2: The construction of a resource centre to be used as a base for environmental activities and was completed in 2002 by the Royal Engineers.

Following the receipt of planning permission, agreement was reached with the Royal Engineers to construct the basic structure of the building, as part of their summer camp projects. Argyll & Islands Enterprise (A.I.E.) and Ardroy Outdoor Education Centre (Fife Council) match funded the project.

The resource centre provides a base for environmental activities throughout the year. The wood-burning stove provides a warm haven on cold and wet days, when up to 60 pupils a week visit the woodlands.

Loch Goil Primary School uses the resource centre for ongoing curriculum work, Woodland Craft day courses for the general public, John Muir Award courses with conservation work based in the woodlands and by Primary Schools for Environmental Education courses.

The resource centre, known as Jan’s Hideaway, is located along a footpath at G.R. NS 197 980.
